Gyumri mayor Samvel Balasanyan received the representatives from European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Catarina Bjorlin Hansen the senior Banker, Municipal and Environmental Infrastructure team and Angela Sax the principal banker of the Yerevan resident office. This was the second meeting with the representatives of EBRD. Last year the mayor received the EBRD new appointed head of Yerevan office Mark Davis with whom there was an arrangement to study the spheres for potential projects. Samvel Balasanyan mentioned the following spheres for prior projects; road construction, external lighting and the increase of green zones. The representatives were interested in other projects implemented by other banks and organizations for effective cooperation measures.
Gyumri mayor talked about the approximate calculations in the above mentioned spheres which later on will be studied by the specialists of the bank. EBRD senior banker Catarina Bjorlin Hansen asked if it was possible to start the road improvement works when another project is implementing the water system works, consequently doing construction works on the streets. According to the mayor, one project will not be an obstacle for the other since there are districts where the water system works are already over and the road construction can begin. As a prior problem the waste management remains a problem for the city. During many years the garbage is accumulated in one place, which can cause a serious environmental problem. At the end of the meeting EBRD representatives mentioned that they are ready to work in the spheres of transport and road construction which is going to be tied with the external street lighting. More practical steps will be taken only after the corresponding studies and professional conclusion.
