The first part of “Kessab” movie will be shown by the initiation of "Media center" at Gyumri "Hoktember" movie theater on April 11, 2014, 3:00PM. After the showcase a discussion will be held with the movie co-author, director Nane Bagratuni and Yakob Cortmosian from Kessab. The history of the ancient Armenian settlement Kessab located on the border of Syria and Turkey on the bank of Mediterranean Sea will be presented at the beginning of the movie.
The movie presents the live of a Kessab resident and the secrets of his survival, national self-consciousness and cultural features, the Kessab being an Armenian cultural island surrounded by the Turkish state from three parts, in cohabitation with Arabs.
The characters of the movie are Kessab residents, they present their history starting back from Tigran Mets times, reaching all the way to the 21st century. It touches upon the displacement and looting by the Turks in 1909, 1915 Armenian genocide and their return after 3 years. A Kessab scientist, ethnographer Hakob Cholaqyan, Arab scientist Nizar Khalin talk about the Kessab history by presenting facts and the residents from young students to elder generation share with their personal history.
102 year old Kessab Galil Nana /Galilia Mantchikyan/ from Kessab who was 7 year old girl in 1915 talks about her memories of the genocide, about the tattoo on her hand that saved her life.
